Tintype Modeling

Since 2016, Vania Kinard has been modeling and taking tintype photographs with world-renowned photographer Timothy Duffy, the Founder of Music Maker Foundation, a North Carolina music-based non-profit.
Her photographs were featured in exhibits at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and Birthplace of Country Music Museum, and featured in an illustrated book, “Blue Muse,” published by UNC Press and the New Orleans Museum of Art.
Vania has personally curated over fifty tintype portraits that include her wearing vintage clothes from local boutiques, styled with jewelry collected from her world travels, and accessories from her family’s collection.
Her inspiration comes from visiting museums and seeing iconic historical images of black women from all around the world. Her vision for this collection is to expand the representation of black women on tintype portraits and to bring the visuals to a modern context.
